Allan McGregor: The 40-year-old returned to the sticks following his bout of sickness. Forced to race out of his box early on to deny the onrushing Shields. Had to sprint out again in the opening stages of the second half to deny Shields at the edge of the area. That aside, was untroubled for much of the game although he was beaten by van Veen only for the offside flag to rule out the Dutchman's effort. 7

James Tavernier: Curled a free kick that Kelly gathered at the second attempt midway through the first half and blazed a shot over the bar at the start of the second half but still doesn’t look 100 per cent fit. One of four players to make way midway through the second half. 5

Connor Goldson: Netted his first goal since scoring against Dundee in March when he connected with a Barisic corner to power the ball past Kelly with what looked like his shoulder. Relatively untroubled but, like others, was guilty of being sloppy in possession at times. 7

Ben Davies: A decent display from the former Preston man who was rarely troubled although he wasn't as assured in possession as he would've liked at times. That aside, he looks comfortable alongside Goldson, one can only hope the pair can steer clear from injury from here on in. 6

Borna Barisic: The Croatian returned to the starting XI following his successful World Cup campaign and took just 13 minutes to deliver an exquisite assist for Morelos’ headed opener. It was a cross you will never tire of watching, it was truly world-class. Made a vital block to deny Cornelius a shot on goal in the first half. Assist number two arrived minutes after when his deep corner was met by Goldson. 7

Ryan Jack: Not the greatest of displays from the Scotland midfielder. He kept the ball moving but was guilty of one or two misplaced passes. 5

John Lundstram: Similarly to Jack, it was far from a vintage display from the Scouser. Saw an early shot blocked before he was guilty of playing a casual under-hit pass to Davies that resulted in Shields running towards goal. Both he and Jack were busy enough although neither really dominated the midfield and was guilty of poor passing at times. The Scouser was booked for upending McKinstry in the second half which came about due to his own sloppiness. 5

Alex Lowry: A surprise but welcome inclusion in the starting line-up, his first of the season. Took up position on the left-hand flank and linked up well with Barisic and others. Was always looking to play a forward pass even though it didn’t always reach its intended target. Stung the gloves of Kelly with a side-footed effort from the edge of the area just before the break. Unlucky not to score five minutes after the restart but his shot was cleared off the line. He was then guilty of blazing a shot into row Z just before the hour mark before being substituted. His close control was a joy to watch at times, he is someone with supreme talent and tonight’s showing highlights just why so many supporters want to see more of him in the team. 7

Rangers Review: (Image: NQ)

Malik Tillman: Booked early on for tripping Shields on the edge of the area and could have no complaints. Blazed an effort over in the first half following a neat Rangers move in which he was involved before being taken out by a Motherwell defender. Heavily involved in much of Rangers’ attacking play, the American linked up well with Morelos and Motherwell struggled to deal with him. Took his goal well as he rifled a right-footed drive into the corner after being laid off from Morelos following a terrific passing sequence involving pretty much everyone in the team. 7

Ryan Kent: Given the license to roam and worked hard as ever as he looked to create openings. Looks revitalised under Michael Beale and someone not lacking in confidence and self-belief. He must be an absolute nightmare to defend against as Motherwell certainly found out this evening. 7

Alfredo Morelos: Just as the Colombian looked to be getting back to his old self, the sorry sight of him pulling up with an injury in the second half is a major worry. He started the evening by bulleting a header past Liam Kelly to open the scoring on 13 minutes after connecting with a pinpoint Barisic cross. Passed up a great chance for his second of the evening when Tillman laid the ball on a plate for him but his shot was saved by Kelly. Unlucky to see a back-heel effort cleared off the line after getting the better of Lamie on the hour mark but he turned provider shortly after when he teed up Tillman to fire into the corner. With a certain game on the horizon, it’ll be a huge blow if he is ruled out. 7

Substitutes

Adam Devine: Replaced Tavernier and acquitted himself well, carrying on from his three previous performances on the opposite flank. 4

Fashion Sakala: Replaced Lowry and found himself with a half chance when played in by Kent but failed to convert. 3

James Sands: Replaced Lundstram and kept things neat and tidy in midfield. 3

Glen Kamara: Replaced Jack and was a stroll for the Finn. 3

Rabbi Matondo: Replaced the injured Morelos. Should've scored when presented with a chance but he fired straight at Kelly. Found himself through on goal in stoppage time and struck Kelly although the offside flag spared his blushes. 2
