Allan McGregor: Could’ve been sat in the stand for much of the game given how little he was called into action. Didn't stop him from blowing a gasket at Davies in the first half and Sakala in the second as St Johnstone carved rare half chances in Rangers' final third. Rounded by Wright at the end of the first half but fortunately, the Saints man couldn’t convert. Had to get down to his near post following a header from a Saints corner in the second half. 6

James Tavernier: Rifled home the penalty to open the scoring with aplomb giving Matthews no chance. Fantastic cross-field pass to Kent at the tail end of the first half. Tested Matthews with a terrific free kick from the edge of the area. 7

Connor Goldson: A stroll in the park for both he and Davies for much of the match with St Johnstone rarely posing any real issues. Good defensive header away from a corner late in the game. 7

Ben Davies: See Goldson. The former Liverpool man did make a vital block following a rare Saints foray into the Rangers penalty box in the second half but that aside, he could’ve had his slippers on. 7

Borna Barisic: Curled a free kick on target on the half-hour mark but it was a routine save for Matthews. Sent in some teasing deliveries in the second half. 7

Ryan Jack: Left crumpled on the deck following a wild tackle from Clark who was subsequently given his marching orders by Willie Collum. Deservedly cautioned shortly after for a late challenge on Montgomery although there was a VAR check to determine if it deserved a bigger punishment but the right call was made initially. Subbed at the break for Lundstram, presumably due to his earlier yellow card and fear of being dismissed. 6

Glen Kamara: The Finn rarely finds the back of the net but he produced a composed finish to double Rangers’ advantage after a neat lay-off from Morelos. Wonderful pirouette to set up a chance for Sakala late on but the Zambian's shot was deflected wide. Neat and tidy as ever and kept the ball moving. 7

Malik Tillman: Another decent showing from the young American. Lovely drop of the shoulder in the opening minute to set up an attack. Should’ve had an assist to his name in the early stages but Morelos failed to capitalise when through on goal. Should’ve done better when he connected with a Barisic cross at the back post but struck his shot into the ground and wide. 7

Todd Cantwell: Solid debut from the new signing. Started off on the right-hand side but was given license to roam at times and was interchangeable with Kent. Intelligent pass into Kamara in the opening five minutes. Neat dummy that set up Kent with a chance on goal. Blazed an effort over the bar five minutes after the restart following a neat move. Faded, perhaps understandably given his lack of game time recently, as the match wore on and received a standing ovation as he was subbed for Sakala. 7

Rangers Review: (Image: NQ)

Ryan Kent: Wonderful run to set up Morelos in the first half. Stung the gloves of Matthews with a shot from the edge of the area midway through the first half. Great take from a Tavernier pass at the end of the first half before he was upended just outside the penalty box. Unlucky not to double Rangers’ lead six minutes after the restart after being played in by Tillman but his shot was tipped away. 7

Alfredo Morelos: It’s fair to say El Bufalo has had more productive afternoons. Should’ve opened the scoring six minutes in when played in on goal by Tillman but the Colombian fluffed his lines. Missed sitter number two 15 minutes later when he struck Matthews’ legs when through on goal. Misses aside, he had an assist to his name when he teed up Kamara to score. 6

Substitutes

John Lundstram: Replaced Jack at half time. Kept things simple enough without being spectacular. 6

Fashion Sakala: The Zambian replaced Cantwell midway through the second half and came close with his first touch when he got on the end of a Tavernier free-kick but couldn’t direct his header on target. Fired a shot straight at Matthews on the 70-minute mark as Rangers chased a third. Almost netted late on with a shot that had Matthews scrambling at his near post. 4

Ianis Hagi: Fantastic roar from the vast majority inside Ibrox when the Romanian came on for Tillman to make his long-awaited comeback from injury. Showed some nice touches but it's just brilliant to see him back in a Rangers jersey again. 3

Antonio Colak: Warm reception from the Ibrox crowd when the Croatian replaced Morelos. Didn't have much input. 3

Scott Wright: Replaced Kent and offered the usual energy and endeavour on the flank. Almost played in by Colak in stoppage time only for the Saints defence to block. 3
