CALVIN BASSEY suffered a nightmare Ajax debut as he was sent off just 16 minutes after climbing off the bench.
The former Rangers defender - who left for a club record transfer fee - was a second-half sub for his new club in the Johan Cruijff Shield loss against PSV.
Bassey, 22, was thrown into action in the 62nd minute but was ordered off just 16 minutes later after a VAR check on a heavy challenge.
The Nigerian international lunged into a tackle on Ismael Saibari and caught the forward on the ankle.
Bassey was originally shown a yellow for the challenge but after checking the VAR monitor the official produced a straight red.
It was a horror start for Bassey on his debut for his new club after having his playing start delayed due to a work permit hold-up.
But when he finally made his debut it was immediately one to forget. After coming on Ajax conceded two goals before his sending-off.
PSV Eindhoven ran out winners in the fixture claiming a 5-3 victory against the ten-man Ajax side.
And it’s a straight red card for Calvin Bassey after 14 mins on the field. Not his dream debut 😢 https://t.co/XMzxSUu7jU pic.twitter.com/yxvxS9RbaL
