Rangers moved within a point of league leaders Hearts as they inflicted another defeat on Celtic at New Douglas Park earlier this evening.
A Katie Wilkinson hat-trick means they are breathing down the necks of Eva Olid's side - who bumped Glasgow City off of top spot this weekend - while sustaining their lengthy sequence of results over Celtic. It is now 11 games against Celtic without a defeat, a run that stretches back to March 2024.
Celtic were insipid and hesitant throughout in a game where Rangers goalkeeper Jenna Fife never had a save of note to make.
"We got what we deserved," lamented Grant Scott after the game.
For Leanne Crichton, the reaction to losing to Glasgow City last weekend in the Sky Sports Cup has been what she was looking for.
However, the Rangers manager is wary of getting bogged down in the intricacies of the league table that suggests another last day title shoot-out could be on the cards.
They are a point ahead of City while Celtic are now six points adrift of league leaders Hearts.
Wilkinson put them ahead after she headed in Brogan Hay’s cross before then doubling Rangers’ lead before the break with a 20-yard free-kick.
She added her third from the spot as the game drew to a close after Emma Lawton took out May Cruft just inside the box.
“We had so much respect for Celtic coming here,” said Crichton.
“We spoke about controlling the big moments and I think we did that.
“Every single player was excellent. But when I looked round the dressing room at the end of the game, so many of our players were out on their feet because they have put in a huge effort.
“So people might look at the scoreline and think that it was an easy game but we had to work for every moment in the game.
“We always felt that Celtic would carry a threat on the counter so I was pleased how we managed the game across the second period at 2-0 and I thought we were defensively sound.
“I don’t know what it is now, in terms of the title race!
“We are just glad that we are in it. It sounds like an old cliché but we have tried not to look at the league table but it really hasn’t mattered to us all season and that has been the reality of the situation.
“What we need now is consistency. It is a huge five games ahead of us and we know that it is going to take performances of that ilk across the finale of the campaign.
“But that is what everyone wants.”
Scott has refused to count his side out of it, despite a lack of evidence that would point to them mustering a title challenge.
“We need to dust ourselves down and have a frank discussion about the performances and the results across the past week," he said.
“It hasn’t been good enough and we need to get to the reason as to why that is.
“But there are five games still to go and we are not conceding anything at this stage.”
