Rangers are interested in a move for Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron.
Cameron, 22, is out of contract at Dens Park this summer. Rangers are exploring a move for the midfielder who missed last week's meeting between the two sides which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart explained this weekend that the club will only add "one or two" players to Philippe Clement's squad in the January transfer window if the right opportunities arise.
"The question of whether or not we do business is about both looking at the short-term impact but it's also going to have a long-term benefit as well," he said.
Earlier, we reported that Burnley centre-back Hjalmar Ekdal is not a live target as Rangers explore options to bolster the heart of their injury-stricken defence.
Cameron has been offered a new contract by Dundee but is expected to leave the club in the January or summer window with several teams chasing his signature.
“Lyall Cameron has been fantastic for this football club," Dundee boss Tony Docherty during his press conference on Monday.
"He has been absolutely brilliant and you look at his numbers, he has really kicked on. I threw the gauntlet down to him, that with Luke [McCowan] going, that he could step up. He had done that and stepped up to the plate.
“It is no surprise when a player like that is out of contract and there will be interest in him."
Would a move for Cameron make sense?
As previously reported by the Rangers Review, the Ibrox club hopes to add a young Scottish player to their squad every season when possible.
Connor Barron's move from Aberdeen in the summer was the first of what is expected to be a steady stream of transfers in the coming years from across the SPFL.
Cameron, also capped at Scotland Under-21 level, has been a consistent feature in the Dundee midfield since their promotion back to the top flight ahead of the 2023/24 season.
A creative midfielder, Cameron has scored five goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.
