RANGERS goalkeeper Allan McGregor is far from finished at Ibrox.

That's according to close friend and former team-mate Barry Ferguson.

The ex-Scotland No.1 turned 40-year-olds last week. His current deal with the club expires during the summer.

It's very rare that people could place blame on McGregor for mistakes on the field throughout his career.

However, in recent games against Ross County and Celtic, fans had been calling out the veteran goalie for his errors. Mind you, the derby day defeat would've been much heftier had it not been for McGregor.

For most of Sunday, he was a spectator in the 5-0 thumping of Hearts at Ibrox.

And Ferguson believes despite McGregor getting on, he has enough in him to stay on for another term with the champions.

He told the Go Radio Football Show: "I think it's highlighted with the mistakes he made up at Ross County.

"I can count on one hand the mistakes Greegsy has made over the years. Look, he's not getting any younger, I know that. He's 40, but he's still in good condition.

"After those mistakes you saw what type of character he is. You saw the performance he had against Celtic because it could have been six or seven without Allan McGregor.

"He's not getting any younger but I still think he's a top keeper and it'll be up to Allan. He has had injuries in the past.

"He had a back problem three or four years ago, I know that's the reason he stopped playing international football.

"But if he feels he's up for it he'll continue for another season. Jon McLaughlin is a really good backup keeper, I really like him. Zander Clark is another, St Johnstone have had a poor season but Zander is still performing at a high level.

"I'd like to see him stay. He's old enough to make his own mind up but I still think there's football left in Allan McGregor."
