Rangers' summer move for Jack Butland could have hit the buffers, claims a report.

Michael Beale has targeted Butland for a Bosman deal, offering him regular first-team games for coming north of the border.

The 30-year-old has spent this season on loan at Old Trafford from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace. His contract is up at Selhurst Park this summer.

And the Scottish Sun reports that United wants to retain the keeper for next season.

They say the Red Devils are ready to double the salary offer made to former England shot-stopper Butland by the Ibrox side.

It's said that Rangers would match his salary from the Eagles in a bid to lure him to Scottish football.

But Erik ten Hag clearly has other ideas and has reportedly decided that he wants Butland back next term as cover for David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

That means Butland must decide whether he wants to play regularly with Gers or bank more cash at Old Trafford.

Butland has made just 17 appearances in the last three years, none of which have come this season.

Meanwhile, the same report does have some positive news on the transfer front for the club.

It is claimed that the Ibrox side are edging closer to a deal for Jose Cifuentes.

It's said Rangers are on the verge of pipping French club Toulouse to the signing of the 24-year-old.

He will join from Los Angeles FC, with the dynamic midfielder one of the first pieces in Michael Beale's summer rebuild.

Cifuentes is under contract at LAFC until the end of the MLS season in December this year.

So, the American side are keen to earn some cash for one of their players as opposed to letting him walk for free in a few months.
