Kris Boyd has aimed a brutal dig at Neil Lennon over his unwavering confidence that Celtic will triumph in the title race.

The former Rangers star insists Lenny would know all about a team not having the mentality to win the league - given it's only a few years on since his Hoops side bottled their 10-in-a-row bid.

Philippe Clement has already publicly said that Lennon's dismissive attitude toward his side has spurred them on.

And Boyd reckons his old club have got what it takes to take the champions right to the wire.

"So Neil Lennon says Rangers don’t have the mentality to win the title," the pundit wrote in his Scottish Sun column. "I suppose he should know — it was only a few years ago his Celtic side bottled ten-in-a-row.

"They should have been out of sight of Steven Gerrard’s team that season. But when push came to shove, they blew it.

"But right now at this moment in time, Rangers are very much in the title race.

"Okay, they have failed in some big games this season and have deserved criticism for that. There was a reason why Michael Beale was sacked.

"But this Rangers team have given themselves an opportunity to win the league under Philippe Clement through their grit and determination to claw their way back into it.

"Of course, Lenny is entitled to his opinion. But for me, it’s far too easy to question the mentality of the Rangers team given how they have responded since the appointment of Clement.

"No, Rangers aren’t going anywhere in this title race. Those words might come back to bite me on the backside, and it’ll need to be some chuck to get into my sizeable derriere. But I see real signs of improvement under Clement.

"Had you looked at the league table a few months ago certain people may have thought it was already done and dusted. But this league ain’t over.

"The next few days could be huge for both clubs in terms of who comes in and who leaves.

"But I think it’s interesting that Celtic have slapped a Not For Sale sign on Matt O’Riley.

"That speaks volumes. If Celtic were as confident as Lenny of winning the title surely they’d take the £20million on the table.

"In the past, they would have grabbed the money without a second’s thought."
