Rangers-bound Cameron returns to Dundee side after Celtic omission

The midfielder, 22, had sat out against Celtic through injury but has now been reinstated to the Dundee starting XI.

Tony Docherty has revealed Cameron - who has signed a pre-contract with Rangers - has been passed by medics for action after being unable to play against Celtic in midweek.

"Lyall's return in the Premier League is 17 goal contributions which is fantastic for a midfielder," Docherty said on BBC ahead of the Scottish Cup match.

"I know Lyall will be wanting to go out there and prove his worth.

"He wasn't fit during the week, he's been carrying that little knock. But the medics have been dealing with him and they say he's fit enough today.

"I just expect the exact same Lyall Cameron, who has given his all for Dundee football club."

Cameron quickly had an impact on his return to the pitch, too, as he assisted the opener from a corner.

"I'm very happy that he comes," Philippe Clement said of the deal to sign Cameron in the summer. "It's next season. It's part of our plans that we have with the club to develop young Scottish players or to get young Scottish players with potential. To give them chances also.

"Lyall did already a lot of good things in Dundee. I think he scored 18 or 19 goals already in 83 games for Dundee. So, that's almost one out of four. So, those are really good stats.

"He has the right mentality. He really wants to come to the club.

"We had several talks about how I see him playing and what he could do for the team. So, we're really happy that he can come next season."

Asked directly why the club didn't try to push through the deal before the end of the recent transfer window, the Belgian replied: "At the end, that's a financial decision, of course."
