David Weir is the early frontrunner for the vacant sporting director position at Rangers.
Kevin Thelwell was dismissed from his post by the club earlier today.
He and chief executive, Patrick Stewart, were sacked by the Ibrox club, as chairman Andrew Cavenagh made the decision to call time on their spells at the Scottish Premiership giants.
Thelwell had only been in post since the summer, when he joined from Everton.
He copped hefty criticism for Rangers' poor transfer recruitment during the summer, and even appointed his son, Robbie, as the club's head of the department on that front.
Weir has shot to the top of the bookies odds for the sporting director role.
BettingLounge has the 55-year-old's odds as short as 1/1.
They have also included Tim Steidten, formerly of West Ham United, and Paul Mitchell in the running.
Weir only recently took up a similar role at French side Strasbourg.
He left his role as technical director of Brighton in September. He also worked as pathway development manager at the Premier League club before progressing up the ranks.
“It is a great honour to join Racing, a historic club with a strong identity and growing ambition,” said Weir. “I was convinced by the project and the quality of the people already in place. I am eager to settle in Strasbourg and become fully involved in the life of Racing.

“I look forward to working with Liam [Rosenior] and all the teams to contribute to Racing’s success this season and in the years to come.”
Strasbourg are the sister club of Chelsea. It's said that Weir will work closely with the Stamford Bridge side, with the Ligue 1 outfit bought over by BlueCo in 2023.
